My lovely four-legged children are racking up quite the bill. Maintenance alone is ludicrous. I’m extremely lucky they don’t go off getting into trouble *knock on wood*. I have to cringe just a bit thinking about what I have spent over the past month. But in the end, they’re so worth it.
A few weeks ago I purchased a new saddle for just under six hundred dollars, a steal I might add. Though this purchase wasn’t life-threatening, it was much needed. I have two other saddles that just don’t fit either of my horses. Regardless, it was a sound investment. This saddle will either last me years or I could easily resell it for twice what I paid.
Two weeks ago I bought T.H.E. Equine Edge Muscle Mass supplements for both my girls’ which cost me $160. Proving to be well worth the money, no doubt.
Yesterday, I had to buy brand new winter blankets. On sale of course, but I’m still out $140. At least they’re excellent quality and should last a good bit. Fully waterproof, breathable with a 180-gram fill for warmth!
On Wednesday the Farrier comes out, there’s forty bucks a piece.
I still haven’t purchased hay, but that will need to be done before too long. I’m guessing I’ll need to spend about two hundred on that.
That’s just the big stuff. On top of that, I still have to buy feed and other small things.
Horses add up, fast. I’m happy I can afford to care for them on my own so far, but it’s a little nerve-racking at times. They’re a lot of responsibility and no small feat.
There’s no doubt in my mind they are worth it though. They bring me a kind of peace and sense of accomplishment that can only be felt.
