Last night (12/2/17) I had the wonderful opportunity to go to a Lindsey Stirling concert at the BOK Center in Tulsa. I love the energy of a good concert!
The show started at about 8:10 pm, the lights went dark and stage light up. The arena roared even for the opening act. Alexandra Jean was the opener for the show, they consist of a married couple who both sing while the husband plays guitar and the wife sometimes plays the tambourine. From the first few bars they played I fell in love. Thier music was passionate and alive, the bass was deep and their vocals, alone or together, were enchanting. Their set lasted 5 or six songs– or half an hour– before there was a brief intermission.
After the break, the arena went almost pitch black. The crowd screamed and cheered. The curtain was suddenly drawn back to reveal Ms. Stirling, Violin at hand. They started off the night with an upbeat tune which got the crowd energized.
You could never imagine how thrilling and intense a violinists concert could be without attending one yourself. It was truly phenomenal how she choreographed every step of her show while maintaining the perfect tempo as she played the violin.
For most of the concert, she played the violin furiously, a beautiful thing to see. She played two or three songs before taking a break to speak. When she did speak, it was sentimental. Before playing “Hallelujah” by Jeff Buckley, Lindsey opened up about her struggles with Anorexia, Depression, and self-hate. Then before playing Silent Night, which she finished off with, she spoke about how emotional this time of the year is for her and her family as her father was going through Chemo Therapy last December and passed away this January. It was quite obvious that she pulled at many of the heartstrings in that crowded arena.
Lindsey Stirling definitely knows how to take her fans on a rollercoaster! But I think that’s what makes a good concert. You get happy, you get sad, you feel the music and you get to experience it right beside hundreds of other fans.
