I’ve been drawing since before I can remember, though I preferred to do it on my own and without the assistance of a “professional”. In my eighth-grade year, my mom signed me up for an art class with a homeschool co-op we were a part of. I begrudgingly attended. I still can’t say I learned very much from those short months. Art has always been something that I’ve been self-taught, I won’t deny that I do learn from others– but when I was put into a classroom setup it stifled my creative abilities. My art is something I don’t often show off, though something I’m passionate about. Whether it be fear that what I make isn’t good enough or that I’m attention seeking, I’ve always avoided flaunting my creations.
My art definitely has peaks and valleys. I tend to draw a lot when I get stressed as a route of release or when I find something interesting and begin obsessing over it. I have folders full of depictions of artists and actors that I admired and loved. I go through phases of zero inspiration to needing a sketchbook in front of me at all times. Each phase tends to come at the worst of times. Inspiration when I’m too busy to pay it mind and the dull phases when I have extra free time. It’s too bad inspiration can’t be scheduled.
My art is something I don’t often show off, though something I’m passionate about. Whether it be fear that what I make isn’t good enough or that I’m attention seeking, I’ve always avoided flaunting my creations. But what is it to create without sharing?
I want desperately to be able to share my art and receive both praise and criticism where it’s due from my peers and other artists– which is why I’m going to be sharing some of my past and most of my current creations here.
